Since our inception, it has been our mission to make baseball information more broadly available. To that end, we led the first significant effort to make a database of baseball statistics freely available to anybody who wanted it. This has been a tremendous benefit to the world of baseball research and to the gamers who develop and enjoy baseball simulations.

The database is free, but there are real costs associated with maintaining it and making it available for download. The more popular this site becomes, the more expensive it is to keep things going. Due to the popularity of this site, it costs thousands of dollars each year to operate our server.
